The 34th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition is primarily a scientific mission: to run a large programme of polar research and to expand the country’s research infrastructure at the St. Kliment Ohridski base on Livingston Island.
Plan
The Bulgarian research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) sailed from Varna on 7 November 2025 to deliver additional teams, equipment and supplies and is due to reach the base by the end of December 2025.
Priorities
One of the priorities among thescientific projects during season 2025/2026 is fitting-out and commissioning a new modular laboratory block at the St. Kliment Ohridski base to increase on-site scientific capacity.
Meaning
The expedition is part of Bulgaria’s continuous polar programme and reflects growing national investment in Antarctic science - both for producing climate and ocean data andfor international scientific cooperation.
Our Role in the Expedition
Unimasters provided essential equipment and technical expertise for the success of the 2025 Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition. Our team prepared and optimised the ship’s systems, ensuring reliability, safety, and resilience under some of the harshest conditions on the planet.
What We Delivered
Climate Control Systems – Reliable Temperature Management in Extreme Conditions
We supplied specialised equipment and carried out repairs and modifications to the vessel’s climate control systems. This ensured stable and reliable temperature management throughout the entire voyage and expedition - an essential factor for the safety, comfort, and operational efficiency of the crew in polar conditions.
We delivered and provided a 20-foot refrigerated container on a rental basis, significantly expanding the vessel’s capacity for long-term storage of frozen provisions. This solution ensured stable temperature conditions and reliable preservation of supplies during the extended voyage and Antarctic operations.
Onboard Refrigeration Systems – Secure Storage of Provisions
We performed repairs, modifications, and technical preparation of all onboard refrigeration systems. Our team managed the equipment supply, coordinated deliveries, and supervised loading and unloading operations in close cooperation with the vessel’s crew and the expedition organizers, ensuring uninterrupted and dependable system performance throughout the mission.
Remote Technical Support During the Expedition
Throughout the journey, we maintained continuous communication with the vessel’s crew, providing remote technical support and expert guidance. This allowed for timely diagnostics and resolution of technical issues, minimizing operational disruptions and supporting the smooth execution of the expedition.
